You can always set the shocks softer and see what happens. I think the faster you ride, the harder you need to set the shocks to keep them from bottoming.
As for how to adjust, just stick a philips-head screwdriver in the hole and turn the shock. It thunks and changes length at each position. Set it to the lowest postion then count the thunks to the position you want.
